Introducing Sarah from Halcyon Health & Wellbeing
Tell us a bit about yourself and your business.
“I’m Sarah and I’m a Health Coach, specialising in helping people with endometriosis. I founded Halcyon over 16 years ago, as a natural progression from treating friends and family with various health issues. I ran it in the evenings and weekends alongside a successful 9-5 career for years, then took the plunge 3 years ago to go full-time.
My passion is helping people overcome illnesses like endo, that impact on daily living but that conventional doctors struggle to find the answers for. I was diagnosed with anxiety in my teens and endometriosis in my mid-twenties. After conventional medicine failed to help, I went down the natural route. It was hard work but I got myself to a place where I am in full control of my symptoms. For the most part I’m symptoms free; I can manage flare-ups and I’m not now bound by my symptoms; I can get on with my life without the pain, fatigue and bloating all the time.
I’m now in a position where I can share my learning and experiences to help others who are where I was all those years ago.
I have developed a protocol that works – and it gives me great pleasure to provide the service I wish had been available for me. The pandemic hit me hard – I shut my doors to my face to face clients in March 2020 and rather than sit and wallow, I decided to use it as the push to transform my business. I’d been sitting in my comfort zone for too long – I wanted to be a health coach who helped people with bigger issues have more sustainable results. As much as I’d loved helping people with bad backs, sore necks and dodgy knees, I wanted to focus on my endo and chronic illness clients. So I completed my coaching qualification and Halcyon emerged 8 months later with a new, brighter future ahead.
I’m holding monthly masterclasses, health clinics and I’ve started up a low-cost membership group (£12 per month) to help people with their general health and wellbeing during these difficult times – combatting stress and anxiety, boosting immunity and keeping themselves healthy.”
How has Flower. helped Halcyon and yourself?
“Flower. came into my life at just the right time! Gordie was originally a client (dodgy knees!) and we actually spoke when he was just setting up the business. His passion for helping people flourish in business was obvious right from those first conversations. When I changed my business model, I also changed my approach to the team I had around me. I needed an FD. I needed someone who could keep me focused on my financial goals, rein me in when I was having moments of madness (when my heart was ruling my head), someone who could help my with my ‘money mindset’ in terms of ambitious but achievable growth.
Gordie was talking about his business model being exactly that – so I jumped at the chance to work with him. And I see him as my Finance Director. He keeps me focused through our monthly catch-ups and his advice is always spot on.”
What are your plans for the next 12 months and how will Flower. help you get there?
“My plan for the next 12 months is to take Halcyon global! I want to be recognised for offering an effective and world-class solution to endometriosis and to help people overcome this illness. I’d love to be part of a bigger movement that is starting to push endo onto the health agenda (there have been NO advancements in conventional diagnosis or treatment protocols in the 20 years since my diagnosis – it’s time to change this!). Gordie’s input is essential to my plans – I need his support in terms of how and where to invest in my business to grow at a proper rate, his advice in terms of general business growth and also his expertise in tax-planning and running my financial systems. Not to mention the accountability and focus that our monthly catch-ups give me.”
What’s one piece of advice you would give to other business owners?
“The only limits to what you can achieve are in your own mind. So surround yourself with people who lift you up and support your ambition if you want to succeed. And don’t let a health condition stand in your way – prioritise your health and wellbeing because you can’t pour from an empty cup.”
