Numbers are boring without context.
Would you get excited about growing something minus any understanding of what your life looks like if you’re successful, about what it is you actually want from it?
When we onboard a new franchisee we build our initial conversations around 5 simple questions:
- Where are you now?
- Where do you want to be?
- When do you want to get there?
- How are we going to do it?
- Why does it matter?
In asking these simple questions, we build a relationship – we understand.
From there, we can start to get excited about some numbers, as we measure and monitor our progress on the journey we’ve mapped out.
Our “now” position can be delivered in real-time with the right systems in place, giving complete peace of mind (franchisees crave certainty, which is totally understandable).
For the “how” we have an Operations Manual under our arm which, combined with a dedicated business and tax partner overseeing the finance function, is a recipe for success.
And the big one – “why?”. This is what keeps us moving forward when we’re having one of those days (and we all have them, it’s life).
So we light the fire in people and work with them to build a business, resulting in tremendous shared success – for franchisee, for franchisor and for us. That’s the beauty of franchising: done right, everybody wins!
This is the role of a modern accountant as I see it, which is why I called my business Flower. versus Smyth & Co or something equally as vanilla, because life is about growing and a business is just a
vehicle to serve us.
When we know where we are now (as in, total financial clarity) and where we’re headed, the journey can be reverse-engineered.
And when we know we’re making progress on our journey we’re happy people (happy franchisees; happy franchisor!).
We’re doing this accountant thing a bit different and, our way, it’s anything but boring.
